Palacký University was granted the full rights of other European universities in 1573. It was restored under its present name in 1946, and after 1989 the number of faculties grew to today‘s eight. It prides itself as a friendly institution with supportive teachers and an intellectually stimulating environment. Students present at UP are given sufficient space for their extracurricular activities, whether at university sports facilities or culture and social events.
University has recently created and further developed a number of top research institutes where hundreds of international experts are employed, involving students during their studies to participate in the research. Biomedicine, biotechnology and new materials are the main focus of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine specialising in research on neoplastic and infectious diseases, and the development of new diagnostic procedures and medications. Researchers at the Centre of the Haná Region for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research are among the world’s leading experts. TheRegional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials focuses on chemical and optical research.
