As the only comprehensive university in Rhineland-Palatinate, JGU combines almost all academic disciplines – including medicine and two art institutes –under one roof, a combination unique among German universities. The university’s namesake is the world-renowned inventor of the printing press with movable type and the most famous son of the city of Mainz: Johannes Gutenberg.
