With about 32,000 students from more than 120 countries, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. As the only comprehensive university in Rhineland-Palatinate, JGU combines almost all academic disciplines – including medicine and two art institutes –under one roof, a combination unique among German universities. The university’s namesake is the world-renowned inventor of the printing press with movable type and the most famous son of the city of Mainz: Johannes Gutenberg.
