Remember These Dates If You Want to Study in Europe in 2019

Reading this article, we assumed that you are committed to pursuing a degree in Europe, you may also have a list of countries or universities in your hand.

We all know the preparation process to study overseas takes time.

And sometimes too focusing on the process can make you forget about the application deadlines.

As you know, European universities are known to have a strict deadline, and almost all application can be done digitally through the universities’ website. Therefore, you better take notes on our list of application deadlines at several European universities.

If you are looking for the autumn or winter semester in 2019, here are the application deadlines:

• January 2019 – Finland (most universities); Sweden (15 January 2019)

• February 2019 – Ireland (1 February 2019 for online application)

• March 2019 – Denmark (15 March 2019 for Bachelor degrees)

• April 2019 – France (between February and April for most universities); Netherlands (1 April 2019)

• May 2019 – Latvia (May or June 2019, varies by universities); Netherlands (1 April 2019 or 1 May 2019 for most universities)

• June 2019 – Lithuania; Iceland; Spain

• July 2019 – Germany (15 July 2019 for most universities); Greece; Luxembourg

• August 2019 – Austria (June to September 2019, varies by universities)

Some exceptions are application deadlines for Norway and the United Kingdom.

Norway opens their application submission until 1 December 2018 for non-European students. While the United Kingdom has various deadlines by universities, some of them accept applications until the summer.

You may want to do your research early, otherwise, you will submit your application in a rush.

Remember, panic never solves anything.

In general, applying to study in Europe means you need to submit these documents:

• Previous degree certificates and grade transcripts (in English)
• CV or resume
• Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL)
• Copy of your passport or national ID
• Academic reference letters
• Motivation letters or video
• Letter of acceptance

For a detailed requirement, we urge you to read the admissions guidelines in your preferred university websites, and whether you can submit certain documents after the actual deadlines.

How About Late Applications?

From our list above, you may notice that some countries, like Finland or Sweden, require you to send your application very early in January 2019. However, it is also common for European universities to open a second admissions round, on one note, if they did not get enough applicants.

Also, there are some countries that have very late application deadlines. Austria, for example, opens the application submission until shortly before the start of the semester. For these countries, they usually did not open a second submissions round, since they assume you have enough time to prepare.

You may try your luck by contacting the university and ask whether they accept a late application. However, we recommend you apply according to the official deadlines unless there are some technical troubles in the universities’ websites.

Like Benjamin Franklin said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
