The University was established by the law 3 April 1979 , on the basis of previous substantial shape initiatives between 1964and 1968 , with the foundation before a draw Institute of Magisterium and then the University Consortium of Monte Cassino.
Due to its geographical position on the ancient Via Casilina which connects Rome to Naples , it is the meeting point between the cities of southern Lazio , in Campania , of Molise and Abruzzo from which channels the majority of students, thanks the humanistic and cultural tradition carried on for centuries from Abbey of Montecassino .
