In May 1946 as one of eight colleges of education established in the State of Lower Saxony, the University of Education Lüneburg 1978 - after a transition phase as a department Lüneburg the University of Education Lower Saxony (PHN) with courses for graduate teachers and doctoral degrees - in an independent business school habilitation law converted.
Today the university has three locations in Lüneburg: the central campus at Scharnhorststraße is determined by the brick architecture of the barracks buildings from the late 1930s, which unfolds its formative unity in around 20 large buildings, modern lecture rooms and library buildings and differently designed garden zones A biotope.
