The University of Pisa was officially established in 1343, although a number of scholars claim its origin dates back to the 11th century.
But it was only after the 1980 earthquake , and the laws of 1981, the project had a real and substantial boost. The embryo of the University, in fact, is contained in Articles 39-45 of the Law 219. In particular, the 39 laid the first virtual stone: " With effect from the academic year 1982-1983, and established the University state of Basilicata studies based in power ".
