Mid Sweden University (Mittuniversitetet) is a Swedish state university established in 1993. It has two campuses in the cities of Östersund and Sundsvall. At first, the institution was the result of a merger between the University College of Sundsvall/Härnösand (Högskolan i Sundsvall/Härnösand) and the University College of Östersund (Högskolan i Östersund). It was originally called Mid Sweden University College (Mitthögskolan).
Mid Sweden University offers courses and undergraduate programmes in 5 large fields: Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology and the Natural Sciences, Teacher Training and lastly, the Health and Caring Sciences. The university has its own charactheristic in terms of learning. It focuses on e-learning and distance education, which makes it able to provide higher education for wider groups of people. Mid Sweden University provides an education which is close to the real world and valuable placements through the research and collaboration with trade and industry and many kinds of organizations.
