The Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel ( CAU ) is the only full university in Schleswig-Holstein . It was founded in 1665 and is named after its founder, Duke Christian Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf.
It has been participating in the federal excellence initiative since 2006 with a graduate school [1] and two excellence clusters ( Ocean of the Future [2] and "Inflammation at Interfaces" [3] ) . Alumni and researchers of the University were with 12 Nobel prizes awarded.
