Created in 2003, the University of Luxembourg is European through and through: located at the heart of the European Union, it is by nature multilingual and international (50% of students are from outside the Grand Duchy). The programmes are either bi- or trilingual ( French, German, English) or entirely held in English. Moreover, some bachelor and master programmes are bi- or even tri-national, involving neighbouring countries.
The University's teaching features the availability of an abundance of high-quality programmes, and ranks 12th in the Young Universities Ranking of the Times Higher Education (THE). It consists of three faculties:
- Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM);
- Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE);
- Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF).
The popularity of the fledgling university is based on research - especially in its priority research areas of materials science, computer science and computer security, European and international law, finance and financial innovation, education and digital and contemporary history. The transdisciplinary themes of health and systems biomedicine as well as data modelling and simulation are also specialities of the university. Moreover, close collaboration with the country's financial institutions and companies enables students to immerse themselves in the professional sector from the very beginning of their studies.
Founded in 2003, the University has already positioned itself among the best young universities in the world and ranks in 12th position of the Times Higher Education ranking of universities of less than 20 years of age. The University of Luxembourg is the only public university at the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. A major goal of public research in Luxembourg is to position the country as a knowledge-based society. The University of Luxembourg supports this strategy through its commitment to be an international leader in selected areas of research; provide high-quality interdisciplinary teaching and learning programs, and positively contribute to shaping Luxembourg’s society and strengthening its economy. In general, tuition at higher education in Luxembourg is conducted in English and any of the official languages of Luxembourg for 73 study programs in the domains of Science, Technology and Medicine, Law, Economics, Finance, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. The country counts three official languages: French, German & Luxembourgish which allows students to become fluent in several languages while earning a university degree in a very multicultural place since 170 different nationalities are represented, also the tuition fees are very affordable for international students since they are the same as local students. Europe and European History are really represented because Luxembourg is one of the 6 countries that founded the CECA that become the European Union and also due to the European institutions present such as the European Commission, European Court of Justice or the European Investment Bank. Luxembourg offers to the student a country placed at the heart of Europe between 3 countries but also with the free bus that brings to the airport for city trips in the continent.

Our University consist of three faculties:
- Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM)
- Over 2000 students are enrolled in eight bachelors, 18 masters, one doctoral school and lifelong learning programmes at the Faculty of Science, Technology & Medicine. Students are being mentored by a team of 80 international and renowned professors and senior lecturers. The FSTM offers excellent working environment and opportunities with multilingual and small-group courses, early involvement in research projects and close connections with institutions and industries.
- Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF)
Academic staff from 18 different nationalities teach at the Faculty, supported by practitioners from the field, visiting scholars and guest professors. Teaching and research benefit from the proximity of the European institutions, Luxembourg’s leading international financial centre and its vibrant business community. Institutional and private sector partnerships, sponsored Chairs and a growing network of international partner universities make the FDEF a vibrant academic hub at the heart of Europe.
- Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHES)
- The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) covers a wide range of fields: behavioural and cognitive sciences, education and social work, geography and spatial planning, humanities and social sciences. The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.
The University of Luxembourg has launched an Entrepreneurship Programme, which offers the university community a possibility to participate in carefully designed elective courses to acquire transversal skills.
