Founded in 1970 as a technical and scientific university, the Technical University of Kaiserslautern is now the only university in Rhineland-Palatinate, with technical and engineering sciences . Despite its comparatively young age, the TU Kaiserslautern has already achieved an excellent reputation and is ranked top in various categories in higher education. In October 2009 she received an award in the Federal Competition for Excellence in Teaching .
