The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is an education, advisory and research institute of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Looking at cities from different perspectives, we educate urban professionals with diverse backgrounds, consult national and local governments from the Global South and engage in cutting-edge urban research.
Bringing practical experience from real-life projects back to the classroom, we inspire collaboration and co-creation of urban knowledge. Together with our partners and more than 8000 alumni we work at the forefront of urban development to improve the wellbeing of people living in cities.
IHS is about making cities work.
Our Master of Science in Urban Management and Development program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to become competent urban managers. This 12-month course offers an in-depth insight into urban issues policies and trends around the world through a blend of lectures with case studies, discussions, working groups, group assignments and field visits. The program is divided into 3 main periods: a core period, a specialistion period and a thesis period.
We also offer several post-graduate diploma courses which delve into a particular aspect of urban development. These short courses vary in length from 3 weeks to 3 months and provide students with the opportunity to further their knowledge in a particular area within a short space of time. For more information on the courses that we provide please read our post-graduate diploma courses information page.
At IHS we know that studying abroad is an investment in your future. Although as an institute we do not provide any scholarships you can find out about some of the external funding options that could be available to you and their requirements on our dedicated scholarships information page.
